Serena Williams Hunts for record tying Grand Slam Title as a Mother

In the world of Tennis, it is safe to say that former world number 1 Serena Williams have nothing to prove to anyone except to herself.

From her induction into the sport at a very young age along with her sister Venus, Serena has stolen the show for all the right reasons.

Her colorful display in the game over the last decade has left the world in awe of her prodigious talent which has brought her fame and fortune.

Indeed the 23-time Grand Slam winner may have nothing to prove to anyone, but she still has a lot to prove to herself as she chases her 24th record equalling Grand Slam title at the 2020 US Open.

As far as the former number one is concerned, there is still enough fuel in the tank to go on breaking records. She is already arguably the greatest female tennis player of the open era, having won 23 Grand Slams, featured in 33 Finals, 38 Semi-Finals, and 53 Quarterfinals.

However, chasing down Margaret Court’s record Grand Slam of 24 and surpassing that is a goal that she is determined to achieve.

Serena is one of the eight mothers that entered for the 2020 US Open to challenge for the title. The added incentive of winning the Grand Slam as her 3-year-old daughter watches on is an added motivation that could see her across the finish line.

No doubt 3-year Olympia would be proud of the history her mother Serena has created so far.

Other mothers that have been displaying their mastery of the racket in this year’s US Open include 2010 US Open runners up Vera Zvonareva whose daughter is named Evelina.

She lost in the first round to Leylah Fernandez. Patricia Maria Ting of Romania is the mother of Sofia; she lost in the second round of the competition. Olga Govortsova, mother to 2-year-old Dominic also fell to Sloane Stephens in the second round.

Karin and Eva would be proud of their mother, Kateryna Bondarenko who also exited the competition in the second round. Tsvetana Pironkova mother of Alexander stunned a lot of tennis fans when she sent 10th seed Garbiñe Muguruza packing from the competition in her first Grand Slam three years after giving birth to her son.

Winner of the 2020 Western and Southern Open, and mother of Leo, Victoria Azarenka is also hunting for 3rd Grand Slam.

Former world number one, Kim Clijsters completes the list of mothers on parade in this year’s competition, the mother of Jada, Jake, and Blake could not recapture the form that made her the world’s number one female tennis player in the past this year.

While three of the mothers made it into the quarterfinals, only one player will emerge as champion of the 2020 competition. Serena continues to push for that elusive Grand Slam, having ended up as runner up in 2018 US Open, 2019 US Open and 2019 Wimbledon.

The world also awaits the day she finally equals the long-standing record and take one step further to set a new record.

No matter the outcome of this year’s United States Open Tennis Championships, Serena has written her name in gold long before now. She will remain an all-time great not only to the many adoring fans across the globe, but also in the eyes of her daughter.
