Russian Tennis star Daniil Medvedev claimed the biggest title of his short career with am impressive 4-6 7-6 (7-2) 6-4 win against Dominic Thiem on Sunday.<\/p>\n

The 24-year-old ended his great run of form that saw him beat Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal en-route final at the season ending Masters at the O2 Arena in London.<\/p>\n

Daniil Medvedev was too good for all his opponents after securing the maximum three wins from three group games against Novak Djokovic, Diego Schwartzman and Alexander Zverev.<\/p>\n

He then came from a set down to beat Rafael Nadal 3-6, 7-6(4), 6-3 to reach his first career ATP Finals final becoming the first player in almost two years (72 matches) to comeback from a set down against the Spaniard.<\/p>\n

The Sunday final gave a glimpse of what the future of Tennis could look like with both Daniil Medvedev and Dominic Thiem going head-to-head but Russian was the last man standing.<\/p>\n

Daniil Medvedev, who was world number four going into the tournament defeated Nova Djokovic, world number 1, Rafael Nadal, world number 2 and Dominic Thiem the world number 3 to claim the season ending show-piece.<\/p>\n

He became just the first Russian to claim the title in 11 years since Nikolay Vladimirovich Davydenko won it in 2009.<\/p>\n

The world number four had nothing but praise for Thiem, who went on to win the title at Flushing Meadows, when addressing his win after the match.<\/p>\n

“First of all, what a match. Maybe one of my best victories,” the champion said.<\/p>\n

“I mean, two hours 42, three sets against an amazing player, Dominic congrats for what you achieved in your career, I think your name is already in the history books of tennis.<\/p>\n

“So, it’s amazing, you won a grand slam this year. I mean, you’re playing unbelievable. I hope we’re going to have many more matches to come on the big occasions like this – semi-final of the US Open and final here – so congrats to you and your team. You’re doing an amazing job.”<\/p>\n

Daniil Medvedev was praised by Dominic Thiem whom he beat in the final on Sunday.<\/p>\n

“Of course, I’m disappointed, but at the same time I’m also proud of the performance, of all the week,” he said.<\/p>\n

“Daniil really deserves it. Amazing match, congrats for, in general, another great year as well.<\/p>\n

“Amazing month, November, with the Bercy [Paris Masters], title here and I hope we have many great matches to come. It was a pleasure today even though I lost.<\/p>\n

“And thanks also to my team for all the support – without the crowd it’s even more important.<\/p>\n

“Thanks a lot, we had an unbelievable year as well. Thanks for taking care of me in all the bubbles and I can’t wait for other great years with all of you.”<\/p>\n
