UEFA Champions League Round of 16 Preview

The first phase of the 2020/2021 UEFA Champions League round of 16 first leg games held last week on the 16th and 17th of February respectively.

The biggest game for last week was Barcelona hosting Paris Saint Germain, at the Nou Camp. This game was an ‘Mbappe’ show as the young man’s hattrick secured a 1-4 away win for Mauricio Pochettino’s PSG team to give them a strong advantage going into the second leg.

Liverpool, Borussia Dortmund & Porto also secured wins against RB Leipzig, Sevilla & Juventus respectively.

For this week’s games, there’s no doubt that the Atletico Madrid vs Chelsea game would be the game to look out for by football lovers, and bettors around the world can place their bets with NetBet, the most trusted with juicy odds.

Lazio vs Bayern Munich, Atalanta vs Real Madrid & Borussia Monchengladbach vs Manchester City are the other fixtures for this week.

HERE’S A PREVIEW OF THE GAMES

ATLETICO MADRID VS CHELSEA

Diego Simeone’s side remain in charge of the La Liga title race, sitting three points clear of second placed Real Madrid with a game in hand, but Atleti will be going into this game off the back of a shocking 0-2 defeat at home to Levante at the weekend, and also not in the best of forms, winning just one out of their last four games.

For Chelsea, they have won just 2 of their last 11 away knockout games against Spanish clubs in UEFA competition, but they could ride on the luck that the game won’t be holding in Madrid.

This game should end in a slim win for the Spanish team, and an away goal for Chelsea would bring forth an exciting second leg.

ATALANTA VS REAL MADRID

Atalanta are in fine form coming into this game, having won each of their last three games. They beat Napoli 4-2 on Sunday.

They made history making it into the Quarter Final for the first time ever last season and would be looking to do same this season again.

For Real Madrid, they are going through a bit of an injury crisis at the moment, but have still kept themselves afloat in the La Liga title race.

Real Madrid could face a tough time in this game against Atalanta,  because of the huge number of injuries that they are grappling with at the moment.

A surprise Atalanta win in Italy could happen.

LAZIO VS BAYERN MUNICH

This is a strong test for Lazio as they face a beast side in Bayern Munich. The Bavarians are unbeaten in 17 champions League games and recently won the club world Cup as well.

After a slow start to the current campaign, Lazio’s win over Sampdoria  on Saturday moved Simone Inzaghi’s side into the top four of Serie A.

While Bayern are struggling a little in terms of player availability and a soft underbelly in defence, their offence should be too strong for Lazio to stymie.

BORUSSIA MONCHENGLADBACH VS MANCHESTER CITY

This is Gladbach’s first time in the Champions League knockout stages, and city on their end are looking to win it for the first time in the club history.

Given the current form of Man City, then, Gladbach fans may wish to savour every moment of the 180 minutes against Pep Guardiola’s side, as it could be the last time they see their great club in Europe’s elite competition for at least a couple of seasons.

Man City’s win against Arsenal  on Sunday extended their winning run to an astonishing 18 consecutive matches in all competitions.

Given the lack of home advantage for Gladbach and the contrasting form between the two sides, it’s going to be a comfortable win for the cityzens.
