Top 5 Pound for Pound Fighters in the MMA

The Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) universe is a very diverse one comprising of many different components, chief of which is the Universal Fighting Championship (UFC).

In this list, we would be looking at the five best pound for pound fighters in the MMA universe.

5) Patricio  Freire: Brazilian grappler Freire  competes in the Bellator MMA lightweight division. His record of 32 wins and 4 losses in his MMA career is brilliant. He is the only fighter outside of the UFC in this list. His UFC credentials are still untested, but he has proven himself to be at the very top in the Bellator MMA division, even entering for the Bellator World Grand Prix. He is ranked fifth on the list of the best pound for pound fighters in the MMA.

4) Jan Blachowicz: This 38 year old Polish powerhouse has claimed 27 wins in his UFC career, 8 of which came via knockout, 9 via submission and 11 via judges’ decision including his last fight, a win over Nigeria’s Israel Adesanya. Blachowicz was a late bloomer in the UFC and has lost 8 fights in his UFC career. He is the current UFC light heavyweight champion.

3) Jon Jones: Unarguably one of the greatest UFC fighters of all time, Jones has won 26 fights in the UFC with 10 of them by KO, 6 by submission and 10 by judges’ decision. He has only ever lost one fight, and that was by disqualification. He fights at the UFC light heavyweight division. The American had a series of disciplinary issues including a failed drug test and has not been able to reach the heights he previously reached. He may have to face Francis Ngannou next in the UFC in what would be a totally absorbing match.

2) Francis Ngannou: Ngannou is hailed as one of the most athletically gifted fighters ever to grace the Octagon in the UFC. The heavyweight from Cameroon stands at 6 feet 4 inches tall, and weighs 255 Pounds. He is known for his heavy hitting nature which he attributes to his time as a child labourer back home in Cameroon. He is currently UFC’s heavyweight champion after he knocked out Stipe Miocic following a dominant performance in March. Miocic is the last man to have defeated Ngannou in the division, and the Cameroonian may have to face American legend, Jon Jones next. Ngannou is the second best pound for pound fighter in the MMA according to latest rankings. He has won 16 of his fights in the UFC, with 12 coming via KO and the other 4 by submission. He has also been defeated three times in his UFC career.

1) Kamaru Usman: The Nigerian Nightmare, Kamaru Usman has made a blazing performance in the UFC since his debut in the division. Usman has claimed 19 wins in the division, with 9 of the wins coming by way of knockout, 1 by submission and 9 others by the judges’ decision.

He is one guy who has given more joy to fans who like betting on MMA than. Kamaru Usman has lost only once in his UFC career, and that was by submission. Usman is the best pound for pound fighter in the whole of the Mixed Martial Arts at the moment, and has strung together a powerful run of 14 successive victories in the UFC, the second most in the history of the division. The Nigerian middleweight is the reigning middleweight champion, having first won the title against Tyron Woodley. His first title defence was what thrust him really into the limelight as he tore Colby Covington to shreds and retained the title. He also defeated Jorge Masvidal at the first UFC fight at Fight Island in July 2020, and again in 2021 after defeating Gilbert Burns. Kamaru is likely to face Covington once again in his next fight according to UFC boss, Dana White.
