2021 NBA Playoffs – The story so far in the postseason

The 2020/21 NBA season has reached the postseason stage, with only 16 teams left competing to reach the NBA finals, the culmination of the entire season.

The teams ranked from 1st to 6th in the Western and Eastern Conferences gained automatic qualification to the playoffs, while the teams ranked from 7th to 10th went through a play-in tournament to determine the 7th and 8th seeded teams in the playoffs.

Defending champions, Los Angeles Lakers defeated the Golden State Warriors 103-100 to qualify for the playoffs as the 7th seeded side in the Western Conference, and the Memphis Grizzlies defeated the Golden State Warriors 117-112 to finish as the 8th seed.

In the Eastern Conference, Boston Celtics defeated Washington Wizards 118-100 to finish 7th in the Eastern Conference, and the Wizards went on to defeat the Indiana Pacers 142-115 to book their place in the playoffs as the 8th seed in the Eastern Conference. The playoffs have commenced on the 22nd of May and will run till July.

In the Western Conference playoffs bracket, 1st seed Utah Jazz will face 8th seed Memphis Grizzlies in a best of seven series to determine who goes through to the conference semifinals where the winner will face the winner of the best of seven series between 4th seed Los Angeles Clippers and 5th seed Dallas Mavericks, the first of which the Dallas Mavericks won 113-103.

Memphis Grizzlies won Game 1 of the series against Utah Jazz 112-109.

For the second conference semifinal spots, 3rd seed Denver Nuggets will face 6th seed Portland Trail Blazers in their own seven-game series, the first of which the Trail Blazers have won 123-109. The winner of the series will face the winner of the seven-game series between 2nd seed Phoenix Suns and 7th seed Los Angeles Lakers in the conference semifinals.

The Suns won Game 1 of the series 99-90. The winners of the semifinals will progress to the conference finals, and the winners of the conference will progress to the finals of the NBA.

In the Eastern Conference playoffs bracket, 1st seed Philadelphia 76ers will face 8th seed Washington Wizards in a best of seven series to determine who goes through to the conference semifinals where the winner will face the winner of the best of seven series between 4th seed New York Knicks and 5th seed Atlanta Hawks, the first of which the Atlanta Hawks won 107-105.

Philadelphia 76ers won Game 1 of the series against the Washington Wizards 125-118. For the second conference semifinal, 3rd seed Milwaukee Bucks will face 6th seed Miami Heat in their own seven-game series, the first of which the Milwaukee Bucks have won 109-107.

The winner of the series will face the winner of the seven-game series between 2nd seed Brooklyn Nets and 7th seed Boston Celtics in the conference semifinals. The Brooklyn Nets won Game 1 of the series 104-93.

The winners of the semifinals will progress to the conference finals, and the winners of the conference will progress to the finals of the NBA. This year’s NBA final is set to hold in July.
